There are days I feel unloved, unwanted and unable to do anything right. A personal triumph for me is that I have learned that it's not because of my stuttering. I don't make friends or enemies because of my stutter. I make them because of the person I am. And wanted? Once you have a little child of your own the word "wanted" gets a whole new meaning. How did this change in my attitude happen, you might ask. What made the change in my life? Simple: friends. Stuttering friends. People who saw me as the person I was, so that I finally dared to bring the real me forward. People who had great lives, so I could use them as examples. People who had fun in life, so that I dared to bring back the child in me. People who understood me, without having to explain why I felt up or down. But most of all: people who needed ME. People who looked up to ME. People who asked for MY opinion. And it all started when I, at the age of 27, joined the local chapter for people who stutter. Today my address book is too heavy to carry in my handbag. So now it's my time, our time, to let other people know THEY are not alone. People who stutter, as well as people who meet us. In school, at work, in social life.
